Frequently Asked Questions
What time is check in / check out?
Check-in time is from 2 pm and check-out time is 10 am. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in and late check-out will be provided, however, these are unable to be guaranteed. Guests are welcome to store luggage or leave their car parked while they either wait for their room or after departure.
How far is The Ferry from downtown Queenstown?
12km from Queenstown CBD. We are situated in a suburb of Queenstown called Lower Shotover. It takes approximately 15 minutes to travel by car into downtown Queenstown. Make sure to ask us for our local tip and travel the back way to avoid the traffic on Frankton Road.
When is the best time to visit?
We think anytime is great to pay us a visit. Summer, autumn, spring or winter, it is hard to choose which season is the best. The four seasons enjoyed in Queenstown are distinctly beautiful and each offers a unique reason to visit. Experience long warm days in summer, take a refreshing dip in the nearby Shotover River. Crisp bluebird days for skiing in winter, beautiful golden landscapes in autumn and spring really brings our wonderful garden with heritage roses back to life.
Will we have snow like in the photo?
Snowfall can happen from May to late September, on average 2-3 times a year a dusting of snow will blanket the Ferry. If you are very lucky you might wake up and mother nature has done her thing.
Can I use the kitchen?
Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen and can use it to prepare meals should they wish.

EXCELLENT Based on 221 reviews Posted on Kauma1414. November, 2025.Verified A fantastic representation of New Zealand hospitality, and a place to get some proper rest. We are writing this a few weeks after we stayed. We traveled here from Croatia, and we could not have had a better first impression for the trip. The hosts were a delight, easy going, yet professional. They welcomed us, gave us some fantastic restaurant recommendations as well as suggestions for where to drive. The entire decor is colorful and cozy, and somehow it all works! Relaxing in the evening while just talking, having a drink and talking to the other guests was such a memorable experience. The bedrooms were beautiful, and the beds them selves were so comfy that we had to seriously discuss are we gonna get up every morning or not. Also, do not skip on the breakfast. Actually yea, the breakfast is what is gonna get you out of bed. In short, I wish them nothing but the best and will surely come back here when we return to New Zealand one day.Posted on Matt D27. October, 2025.Verified Excellent property & hosts Thankyou Dan & Mitzi for welcoming us into your beautiful B&B. The excellent service, attention to detail & the many 1% little addition touches made our stay truly a very memorable & awesome experience. The accommodation was extremely comfortable & it was a true pleasure. The breakfasts & daily treats were sensational.Posted on Michael B24. October, 2025.Verified 5 star accommodation in a friendly BB This is by far the best presented and most helpful and friendly accommodation I have experienced anywhere in the world. As a retired Australian Tourism Judge, I feel I am qualified to make such a statement. Dan and Mitzi are the perfect hosts of an amazingly historical and yet tastefully modernized property. Five star for sure and highly recommended, congratulations!Posted on Victoria G17. October, 2025.Verified The best place to stay in all of Queenstown! There is no better place to stay in all of Queenstown! The hospitality, care, and company provided by Dan & Mitzi were the highlight of our NZ trip. From the phenomenal made-to-order daily breakfast, to the beautifully renovated suites with every luxury you could think of, to fantastic recommendations of restaurants, hikes, and excursions, I wish everyone visiting Queenstown could stay at The Ferry!Posted on Chanthru V28. June, 2025.Verified Beautiful Home, Beautiful Hosts Gorgeous BnB and incredibly sweet hosts. The home has so much history and Dan and Mitzi have done an incredible job with the place. They made me feel incredibly welcome and gave me great tips/ tricks for exploring Queenstown. I had everything I needed and then some during my stay. Breakfasts were a highlight, their salmon and bacon are OUT of this world. The fireplace they run in the living room is very cosy and warms you right up on a cold winters night. Cannot recommend them enough! Excited to stay here again!Posted on donegal rose25. April, 2025.Verified Delightful quaint B&B. Highly recommend We stayed 2 nights here and wish it was longer. Lovely oldfashioned, immaculate and comfortable guest house. Really old hotel building but with all modern amenities Dan a d Mitzi are so friendly and helpful and provide a lovely breakfast with a hot cooked to order as well and Mitzi bakes a dailytreat for the afternoon /evening when u get back from your daily travels. All food fresh and baked bread daily with their own hens providing the eggs We used public buses to get around and managed well enough but most seem to have a car for convenience. Dan loaned us a Bee travel card which was at a cheaper rate. Great for hiking and walking trails on the door stop and beautiful views from every side. Highly recommendPosted on Nicolas M21. April, 2025.Verified A perfect place to stay in Queenstown ! The best Bed And Breakfast we ever been in. Hosts are the most kind persons and they are always ready to help you if you need. Bedrooms are extremely comfy, it's hard to get out of the bed in the morning ! Everything is clean perfect. The common areas are just lovely, the bonfire in the living-room will help you recover from all the hiking you can do in the area. The kitchen is full available to you and it helps to know you can cook by yourself in the evening. Breakfast are just perfect, lot of choices available and hosts are there to accomodate you if you want to change some of the ingredients or else. I would definitely recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone who wants to stay close to Queenstown and not get stuck in the city center. It's a quiet and lovely place to be in. To our hosts, thank you very much ! We had a lovely time in Queenstown thanks to you !Posted on Christian H.24. March, 2025.Verified Perfection! We stayed 4 nights in this delightful B&B. The history of the building is really interesting. Everywhere was spotless, the bed was comfy, shower huge and powerful, and the breakfasts delicious including homemade bread. Mitzi and Dan were lovely and gave lots of helpful advice about places to visit and handy tips like where best to park in Queenstown. There were homemade cakes every anfternoon which were much appreciated. Even the other guests were great and we enjoyed chats with them in the guest lounge. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
