Frequently Asked Questions
What time is check in / check out?
Check-in time is from 2 pm and check-out time is 10 am. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in and late check-out will be provided, however, these are unable to be guaranteed. Guests are welcome to store luggage or leave their car parked while they either wait for their room or after departure.
How far is The Ferry from downtown Queenstown?
12km from Queenstown CBD. We are situated in a suburb of Queenstown called Lower Shotover. It takes approximately 15 minutes to travel by car into downtown Queenstown. Make sure to ask us for our local tip and travel the back way to avoid the traffic on Frankton Road.
When is the best time to visit?
We think anytime is great to pay us a visit. Summer, autumn, spring or winter, it is hard to choose which season is the best. The four seasons enjoyed in Queenstown are distinctly beautiful and each offers a unique reason to visit. Experience long warm days in summer, take a refreshing dip in the nearby Shotover River. Crisp bluebird days for skiing in winter, beautiful golden landscapes in autumn and spring really brings our wonderful garden with heritage roses back to life.
Will we have snow like in the photo?
Snowfall can happen from May to late September, on average 2-3 times a year a dusting of snow will blanket the Ferry. If you are very lucky you might wake up and mother nature has done her thing.
Can I use the kitchen?
Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen and can use it to prepare meals should they wish.

EXCELLENT Based on 227 reviews Posted on David C19. January, 2026.Verified Great spot, warm friendly atmosphere, fantastic homecooked breakfasts We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day stay, particularly the hospitality of Mitzi and Dan. The homecooked breakfasts were great and an opportunity to meet with 2 other couples in the cosy dining room. Even though we were just a 15 minute drive from Queenstown, we were in a quiet, picturesque location alongside the Shotover river. For bike riders, the Ferry is centrally located near the historic Shotover bridge where several Queenstown bike trails converge.Posted on Elizabeth S3. January, 2026.Verified Stay with the locals Dan and Mitzi are friendly, welcoming hosts, very knowledgeable about the local area (including where to find parking in Queenstown - a challenge!). Our room was warm and comfortable; breakfast was superb.Posted on Chris S19. December, 2025.Verified A great place to stay. Wonderful rooms, hosts and breakfast. Dan and Mitzi gave us lots of tips on where to go and what to do. They certainly added to our enjoyment of our stay in Queenstown.Posted on Eleanor C9. December, 2025.Verified Simply the best! We absolutely adored our stay at The Ferry! The entire space is gorgeous - it has been updated with such care - it is the perfect blend of modern updates with the original/historic charm. It is a great location - a short drive to Arrowtown and Queenstown, very quiet and a short walk over to the shotover river bridge. The food was fantastic - great breakfast options with such a variety. The owners are so kind and offered lovely suggestions for things within the area. I cannot recommend staying here enough. I can only hope I get to visit again or at least find BnBs closer to me that are a fraction as delightful as this one.Posted on Laura3135030. November, 2025.Verified The Ferry B&B - A Home Away from Home The Ferry B&B in Queenstown was an outstanding place for my husband and me to stay. We especially loved its location—just a quick 15-minute drive north of Queenstown and set right along the Lower Shotover River, with hiking trails beginning practically at the doorstep. As avid hikers, this was a huge bonus. Dan and Mitzi, the hosts, are truly exceptional. Their attention to detail—from the fluffy white towels and crisp sheets to the comfortable bed, pillows, and the fresh roses waiting in our room—made us feel immediately welcomed. Breakfast was another standout. Their delicious homemade spread included fresh eggs from their own chickens, bacon, salmon, yogurt, whole-wheat toast, jam, cereals, and more. In the evenings, they even treated guests to freshly baked brownies or cupcakes—a perfect way to finish a day of exploring. We also really appreciated Dan and Mitzi’s thoughtful suggestions for activities and local spots to visit. Their insights added so much to our time in Queenstown and helped us make the most of each day. It’s the little touches that make a place feel special, and Dan and Mitzi have truly created “a home away from home.” We wholeheartedly recommend the Ferry B&B—you won’t be disappointed!Posted on Corien d25. November, 2025.Verified Een prachtig oud Bed & breakfast met een mooie tuin, en heel hartelijke eigenaren. The Ferry is een prachtig B&B, gelegen buiten Queenstown. 🙏😊Posted on Norma L23. November, 2025.Verified Stay here if you can get a reservation. It is beyond wonderful. We loved everything about our stay. Dan and Mitzi make an incredible cooked to order breakfast. We stayed for four nights and I had the same breakfast everyday because it was unique and excellent. It was called a drop scone, which is sort of like a pancake layered with berries, berry compote, and homemade yogurt. I also had a helping of the homemade yogurt topped with granola each morning. The French press coffee was excellent as was the fresh juice. The daily baked goods available all day long were also excellent. Our room was comfortable and the entire house was nicely decorated. It was nice having use of the living room and kitchen in addition to our room. The front and backyard are beautiful and the views are great. Dan helped us booked a cruise across the lake on an old fashioned steamer ship and a farm tour when we go to the other side of the lake. It was really fun and the scenery was gorgeous. . I highly recommend staying here!Posted on Kauma1414. November, 2025.Verified A fantastic representation of New Zealand hospitality, and a place to get some proper rest. We are writing this a few weeks after we stayed. We traveled here from Croatia, and we could not have had a better first impression for the trip. The hosts were a delight, easy going, yet professional. They welcomed us, gave us some fantastic restaurant recommendations as well as suggestions for where to drive. The entire decor is colorful and cozy, and somehow it all works! Relaxing in the evening while just talking, having a drink and talking to the other guests was such a memorable experience. The bedrooms were beautiful, and the beds them selves were so comfy that we had to seriously discuss are we gonna get up every morning or not. Also, do not skip on the breakfast. Actually yea, the breakfast is what is gonna get you out of bed. In short, I wish them nothing but the best and will surely come back here when we return to New Zealand one day.Posted on Matt D27. October, 2025.Verified Excellent property & hosts Thankyou Dan & Mitzi for welcoming us into your beautiful B&B. The excellent service, attention to detail & the many 1% little addition touches made our stay truly a very memorable & awesome experience. The accommodation was extremely comfortable & it was a true pleasure. The breakfasts & daily treats were sensational.Posted on Victoria G17. October, 2025.Verified The best place to stay in all of Queenstown! There is no better place to stay in all of Queenstown! The hospitality, care, and company provided by Dan & Mitzi were the highlight of our NZ trip. From the phenomenal made-to-order daily breakfast, to the beautifully renovated suites with every luxury you could think of, to fantastic recommendations of restaurants, hikes, and excursions, I wish everyone visiting Queenstown could stay at The Ferry!
