Frequently Asked Questions

What time is check in / check out?

Check-in time is from 2 pm and check-out time is 10 am. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in and late check-out will be provided, however, these are unable to be guaranteed. Guests are welcome to store luggage or leave their car parked while they either wait for their room or after departure.

How far is The Ferry from downtown Queenstown?

12km from Queenstown CBD. We are situated in a suburb of Queenstown called Lower Shotover. It takes approximately 15 minutes to travel by car into downtown Queenstown. Make sure to ask us for our local tip and travel the back way to avoid the traffic on Frankton Road.

When is the best time to visit?

We think anytime is great to pay us a visit. Summer, autumn, spring or winter, it is hard to choose which season is the best. The four seasons enjoyed in Queenstown are distinctly beautiful and each offers a unique reason to visit. Experience long warm days in summer, take a refreshing dip in the nearby Shotover River. Crisp bluebird days for skiing in winter, beautiful golden landscapes in autumn and spring really brings our wonderful garden with heritage roses back to life.

Will we have snow like in the photo?

Snowfall can happen from May to late September, on average 2-3 times a year a dusting of snow will blanket the Ferry. If you are very lucky you might wake up and mother nature has done her thing.

Can I use the kitchen?

Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen and can use it to prepare meals should they wish.

Perfect stay Our 3 nights at The Ferry B&B were nothing but perfect. The accomodation is lovely, in a quiet and amazing area, steps away from the Historic Bridge. The bedroom is so well decorated and looked after that takes away your breath when you open the door. It is sparkling clean, with every single detail to make your stay feels like home. Then comes the breakfast, and believe me, you will feel like being in a real cafe, with hot and fresh meals prepared by lovely Mitzi and served by Dan. These guys go beyond hospitality to make this place a perfect stay. My husband and I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a 10 out of 10 accomodation. Thank you Mitzi and Dan

Best B & B Queenstown Loved breakfast every morning cooked by Mitzi and served by Dan. Felt like being in a 5 star restaurant. The little extras like the home baked daily treat in the kitchen for everyone and the chocolate/lilac on the pillows each day was so lovely. Also great that they have a kitchen that you can use if you need to cook a meal or make a coffee and washer and dryer also. Plus the fireplace in the guest lounge room was warm and welcoming each night. The house itself is 150 years old having been a hotel back in the day so lots of history there and Dan and Mitzi have done an outstanding job in decorating the house with that old world charm. The minute you arrive and see the lovely wisteria draped over the verandah and the beautiful garden and lawn you can't wait to see inside and it doesn't disappoint. Loved the big comfy bed also and the gorgeous white linen. The 2 luggage stands instead of the usual one was good also for both our bags and made the room a lot tidier. With welcoming hosts like Dan and Mitzi this really was a home away from home.

Best B&B in the world It’s the most comfortable and cosy B&B that I’ve stayed, I love the interior a lot and spent a lot time at their warm living room area. Dan and Mitzi are very friendly and welcoming, they suggested us restaurants and actvities to do around queenstown. They also provided many breakfast options and the breakfast was too delicious! We geuinely love our time there and didnt want to leave.

Home away from home You couldn't find a more cosy and welcoming place to stay in New Zealand. The hosts,Dan and Mitzi, have found the perfect balance of laid back and comfortable atmosphere, with luxury and personal service. We originally planned 3 nights, but quickly added another once we arrived. You'll be greeted a toasty warm house and fireplace every evening in the winter, the perfect way to relax after a day of exploring Queenstown. The fact that it's not right in town is another added bonus for those wanting a more relaxed and unique experience. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Better than a 5 star hotel! My husband and I can honestly say this is the best accommodation/bed and breakfast we have ever stayed out throughout our lifetime of travels. We would choose to stay here over any 5-star hotel and we will definitely come back and book here again when we are back in Queenstown. The accommodation is gorgeous with great attention to detail with the decor. Smells divine and clean. We were welcomed with the fire burning, homemade treats, and fruitful conversations and the daily breakfasts were a work of art! Thank you so much Dan and Mitzi. It was an unforgettable stay!

I got 99 problems, but staying at The Ferry ain’t one Okay, that title is just a bit of fun, but we stayed here for a piece of our honeymoon and really had the most wonderful stay. The rooms and the building have been beautifully restored, and you can tell each detail in the place has been carefully thought about. The rooms were cosy and comfortable, and we were blown away by the beautiful garden. We were also spoilt with the best breakfasts of our trip (homemade bread, local spreads, and hearty warm breakfasts – the works!). Mitzi and Dan were such wonderful hosts, and we so appreciated their friendliness and wonderful Queenstown recommendations. We couldn’t fault our experience in any way - it really was the perfect stay. Thanks for having us, Mitzi and Dan! We hope to be back one day 😊
